about.
Important to us are our Family, Friends, Pets, Nature, Events and Epiphanies. Capturing the obscured moment is a great tribute to our lives.
I was born in Lakewood, Ohio in the last century where I spent my first 5 years. After a short stay in Iowa and Pennsylvania, Virginia is where I call home.
I had a paper route delivering for "The Daily News" in the 60’s and as a youth I also had various lawn mowing accounts to earn my way to play.
I expressed my drawing interest as the sports editor of my high school newspaper (Annandale), "The A-Blast", with an occasional cartoon to accompany my articles.
I attended George Mason University in the mid 70’s until my patience and money ran out. I helped establish, as I understand, GMU’s 1st track team since its' break away from University of VA. in 1972. I ran a majority of events. I even threw the Javelin. Any records set were broken the next year when "other" athletes arrived.
Working as a store manager for “Irving’s Sport Shops”, late 70’s to mid 80’s, gave me a great appreciation for the concept of longing for something better. A thankless job as it was, it paid most of the bills. Working at Irving’s inspired one of my works entitled “The Last days of the Retail Kings”. I am pictured in this work at the far right.
I also took commercial art in college and then I returned it undamaged.
My first personal loan was done through "Virginia National bank" in the late 70’s for a $1000 at an interest rate of 18.75%. This money was used to buy groceries. Yep, groceries. Banks did not loan less than $1000. Gotta eat.
In my early years, I rarely had a car in working order. My best & most fun car was a used, 1976 Toyota Corolla. I bought it around 1980 from a lady friend for $65. The car didn't have reverse, but it had an 8-track player. You know what the best thing was; I sold it back to the same person a year later for $85. Improvements you know, but still no reverse.
I sold my first "poster" art to Charlie Scott for $25 around 1980. It was an abstract of a nude ascending a steep canyon in a row boat through an eyeball, I think.
I married Laura Joan Giorgi in 1987 (featured here in " No Lime or Reason", "Selfie"), and began a new career as a “Sales Rep” with Steuart Petroleum. Laura and I have been the best friends in our marriage. In our travels to Hawaii, Bahamas, France, Germany, Austria and our numerous local trips, we have always asked for directions even when we knew where we were going.
On a personal note, I gave up drinking alcoholic beverages in 1990.
Aside from working full-time as a Sales Supervisor for Griffith Energy (bought out Steuart Petroleum in 92’), I started an "in home" pet care business in 1995 called "Whisker Watchers". Laura and I enjoyed the opportunity to fulfill clients’ needs and meet bunches of interesting people with cool dogs & cats. We did so well in such a short time and it was so much fun. I had to choose between my full-time job and "Whisker Watchers". I would continue to work for the Oil Company for the next 10 years.
March 1st 2005, many converging/diverging dynamics in my life demanded change. My career had turned into a job. My job, as an energy consultant with Griffith, was sucking the passion I had for it out of my life.
I began painting with furor on 2006. I have had success in commissioned works. About 90% of the works created were sold at an online charity auction I put together called “The Silent, Loud, Blind Auction”. One hundred percent of the proceeds were a 50/50 split between the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Arlington Animal Welfare League,
My prime passions are rescuing animals (people too, when they don't bite), painting, hiking, biking, kayaking, running and managing my financial future.
I have attended many churches, many denominations, in my life, including a swinging time at "Galilee Baptist Church" in Kalamazoo, MI., which inspired my work "Jesus Antennas" which allowed for great reception. The best church is everywhere outdoors. There, my attendance is best recorded.
I have run two marathons, one “Iron-man” triathlon and over 150 races in my lifetime thus far. I have a goal to run 100 miles non-stop ... ah, er, well, eventually I'd stop.
Upon request, I returned to Griffith Energy in 2010 as an “energy consultant”. I would work with Griffith/Star Gas for the next 13 years.
My only juried artwork in 2017 was presented at a charity event held by " Britepaths", at an event titled "Artful Living, Resilience" in Fairfax, VA. I won "Best in Medium". My work "Angel Audition for Nola" sold and the proceeds went to charity.
In 2023, I retired from the oil company and after living in N. Virginia most of my life, I moved to Williamsburg to start a new chapter.
I am making time for other interests as I navigate a scenic route through life. There is no substitute for imprinting the bench marks of our lives than through sharing our experiences to produce the Art of my Americana.
Now, please commission me or buy my art or my dog, Milo, will not dine tonight. Just kidding, he'll dine ... ON HIS OWN LEG!
